Jones backing for Hatters boss

County flirted with financial meltdown in the summer before a takeover by a consortium headed by Jim Melrose and the subsequent appointment of Ablett as manager. Cardiff boss Jones, who spent seven years at Edgeley Park from 1990 to 1997, told the Stockport Express: "Stockport County was special to me because it was a big part of my life and the start of my managerial career. "I still know people who work at the club and to see what's happened over the summer is very sad. I wish Gary Ablett all the very best. It's not going to be easy - they're not going to have a lot of money to play with. "But if he's given time I'm sure he'll be able to build a strong team of young players who can pull County through." Ablett's men slipped to a 3-1 home loss against Real Valladolid on Tuesday night despite taking the lead through Gianluca Havern.
