Hatters secure long-awaited win

Stockport secured their first win in six months with a 2-0 derby win at Macclesfield. It could have been a different story if Macclesfield striker Emile Sinclair had converted a penalty five minutes into the second half. But Sinclair's soft spot-kick was saved by Matty Glennon after Mansour Assoumani had brought down Colin Daniel. The Hatters dominated the opening stages with veteran striker Barry Conlon forcing a good low save from Jose Veiga after seven minutes. Macclesfield should have taken the lead after 16 minutes when Daniel outpaced the defence only to skew his shot wide from 10 yards. George Donnelly opened the scoring for the visitors on the stroke of half-time when he cut in from the left-hand side and found the far corner with a low right-foot drive. And they doubled their lead after 59 minutes when Assoumani chested down an Adam Griffin free-kick before turning neatly and firing a volley into the top corner from eight yards out.
