County stalwarts feel the strain

Stockport caretaker-manager Peter Ward has admitted that the club's battle against relegation is taking its toll on some of his players. The disappointing 4-1 home defeat by Macclesfield on Saturday left County still in the drop zone one point from safety and they now have 14 games to rescue themselves. Ward told the Stockport Express: "I think a couple of the lads who have a great affinity with the club are feeling a bit of pressure. "It seems as if every sports programme and every newspaper in the country have been doing bits about our situation and I think that makes it hard for them to switch off." He added: "The Macclesfield result was disappointing because it came off the back of a good result we had against Bury. There was a buzz around the place and I think a few people thought we had turned the corner. "But the mood in training is still positive and all we can do is prepare properly for Bradford on Saturday."
