Acting Stockport chairman Mary Gibbons says the club are locked in talks with a number of candidates as they seek to make a permanent managerial appointment. Caretaker boss Ray Mathias has already thrown his name into the ring to win the job full time as County prepare for non-league football for the first time in 106 years. Yet he will face competition from a number of other applicants after the club advertised for the position following their relegation from npower League Two. Gibbons said: "The board of directors are currently in negotiations with a number of parties, both national and international, and they include individuals who have a wealth of experience in professional football. "Negotiations of this nature are always kept highly confidential and we as a club have to respect the wishes of all the interested parties. "As a board we will consider all offers of investment, but to ensure the best interest of the club, all investment offers must be fully explored. In the next few days a meeting will be held between the directors and owners of the football club and all the potential investments will be assessed but at this stage it would not be fair to anybody concerned to divulge any information."
