County blown away by Rovers

15 August 2009 18:36
Rovers were quick to signal their intent - Darryl Duffy holding the ball up before laying it across the County box to strike partner Jo Kuffour who blazed over the bar. In the third minute County captain Michael Raynes embarrassingly headed over the on-rushing Owain Fon Williams into his own goal. Six minutes after the opener Rovers' Jeff Hughes forced Williams into a good save at his near post, but from the resulting corner Danny Coles rose highest to head home past the out-stretched stopper. The visitors had claims for penalty turned down after 12 minutes when Gianluca Havern appeared to handle the ball. County might have halved the deficit when Carl Baker's shot was defected wide with Fraser Forster rooted to the spot and despite nine more County attempts, the Bristol keeper was rarely troubled as the Pirates ran out comfortable winners.
