Thompson was reportedly wanted by a number of Premier League clubs but has opted to follow Tony Mowbray to Parkhead. Mowbray had the 6ft 4in centre-back on trial at West Brom before becoming Celtic manager in June. Regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the English game, Thompson goes straight into Celtic's first team squad. "We are delighted to welcome Josh to Celtic Football Club," Mowbray told the Hoops' official website. "We see him as a young player with great potential and we look forward to working with him as we aim to make the most of this potential in the future." Thompson is one of three Stockport County teenagers to be joining Celtic, with Curtis Jones, 17, and Michael Ordish, 16, also moving to Glasgow. Mowbray said: "Curtis and Michael are young players with a lot of potential and they will be valuable additions to our youth set-up."
