Goodwin fumes as match falls victim

"Furious" Stirling Albion bosses may seek compensation from the Scottish Football Association after their match against Partick Thistle fell victim to the referees dispute.

Stirling believe playing their Irn-Bru First Division meeting with Thistle at Forthbank in midweek - it has been moved to Tuesday, March 22 - will cost them more than £6,000. And the fans-owned club have already lost money on resources purchased in anticipation of the match going ahead on Saturday.

Stirling spokesman Paul Goodwin said: "We believe reversing the fixture to a midweek game will cost us £6-7,000. We'll be interested to talk to the SFA and we`ll be looking for compensation."

Only two Scottish Football League matches have survived the referees` strike - the league meeting between Morton and Falkirk and the ALBA Challenge Cup final.

Stirling feel the SFL clubs are being punished for a problem originating in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League, which should see a full card after the SFA announced they had secured enough foreign referees to fill the void.

Goodwin added: "We are furious. First and foremost we are fans. We can't afford to lose between six and seven thousand.

"That is just the gate receipts. We have already spent money that we will lose.

"We have printed programmes, we have staff commitments. We put on food for all the players. It`s all bought on the Monday and cooked on the Tuesday and frozen for the weekend.

"The guy who was going to the cash and carry asked if he should be buying anything.

"We said: 'There`s your £400, go and buy the stuff'. Some of that can be stored but not all of it. There is a lot of extra work involved too."
