Cowdenbeath 1-0 Stirling: Report

30 April 2011 19:14
Crawford goal not enough Steven Crawford's solitary goal handed Cowdenbeath a 1-0 win over Stirling but results elsewhere means their hopes of avoiding a relegation play-off are all but over. The Blue Brazil occupy the ninth spot going into the final day three points behind rivals Ross County. But a huge goal difference deficit means their hopes are slim. The visitors, playing without pressure following their relegation earlier in April, had the better chances Paul McHale swung over a corner for Scott Buist to head goalward but his effort was weak. The laboured pace continued in the second period as Cowdenbeath struggled to ignite their survival fight. Thomas O'Brien got on the end of Scott Linton's corner as the hosts finally threatened, however McHale cleared the danger. Their persistence finally paid dividends with 11 minutes remaining. Lee Makel found room on the right hand side of the box and his pass allowed Crawford to fire in the winner.
