Westley happy with a draw
Stevenage manager Graham Westley was delighted with his side as they came from behind to snatch a well-earned point at home to Macclesfield.
Charlie Griffin was in the right place at the right time to stab home an equaliser for Stevenage, just when it looked like their return to the Football League would end in defeat.
Peter Vincenti gave Borough a seventh-minute lead but Macclesfield hit back with goals from Nathaniel Brown and Tyrone Bennett before Griffin's 89th-minute equaliser.
"It was a great finish from Charlie [Griffin]" said Westley. "I thought it was a good match to get the season underway, we were definitely not overwhelmed by the occasion.
"Coming up from the Conference is a big step for the club, but we've strengthened over the summer and the lads were all ready for the challenge. I was really impressed with the players. It would have been easy for their heads to drop, but we kept going all the way to the end and never gave up.
"We scored a good goal, but then shot ourselves in the foot a little bit by letting them score twice. The lads were disappointed we'd thrown away our lead, so it was nice that Charlie scored that goal to get us a point. That's a decent start to the season for us."
