Jay Simpson salvages point for Orient at Stevenage

Jay Simpson scored his 20th goal of the season to come to Leyton Orient's rescue right at the death as his side claimed a 2-2 draw after a dramatic finish at Stevenage.

The O's looked set for a losing start to 2016 after French striker Armand Gnanduillet scored twice from the bench, but the Football League's top scorer was their salvation.

The visitors were awarded a penalty just before the hour mark as Fraser Franks was judged to have handled Simpson's shot and he calmly stroked his spot-kick into the net.

The hosts were able to draw level with 14 minutes left as Tom Pett's cross-shot from the right was headed in Gnanduillet from close range.

And the game was soon turned on its head as fellow substitute Ben Kennedy chipped a lovely ball ahead for Gnanduillet to run on to and thump into the bottom corner.

But the O's were able to salvage a point two minutes into stoppage time when the ball fell to Simpson and he dug his shot into the top corner.
