Late Billy Kee penalty keeps Accrington in the play-off picture

Billy Kee's late penalty denied Stevenage a fourth straight win as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Accrington.

The former Burton Albion striker sent Chris Day the wrong way after referee Darren England pointed to the spot following a handball by Chris Whelpdale.

Stevenage had the lead for 83 minutes after Armand Gnanduillet bundled the ball home inside 60 seconds.

The powerful forward kneed in a rebound after Stanley keeper Jason Mooney could only parry a Whelpdale volley into his path.

As such the hosts looked comfortable throughout the first half, but failed to test the Stanley goal, much to the frustration of Teddy Sheringham.

The visitors were much better in the second half, with Kee and Matty Crooks going close.

However, just when it looked like they would be travelling north without a point, Kee stepped up to rescue something for Stanley and keep them firmly in the play-off picture going into the Christmas period.
