Stevenage 0-1 Northampton: Match Report

11 December 2010 23:16
Cobblers edge out sorry Stevenage Ten-man Stevenage slipped to a second defeat in a row after they were beaten 1-0 by Northampton. Darius Charles was given his marching orders for a professional foul in the 52nd minute - and from there are on Borough were always going to struggle to get anything out of the contest. Ryan Gilligan was the Cobblers matchwinner with his sweet 14th-minute strike enough for maximum points. The former Watford trainee lost his marker and rifled a powerful shot into the bottom left-hand corner as the visitors claimed their second win on the bounce. Northampton dominated proceedings and could have won by more, although Stevenage had chances of their own. Ryan Jarvis had a shot charged down and one saved by Borough keeper Chris Day, before Chris Holroyd headed over for the hosts and then blazed over the bar. Ben May headed wide of the left upright as the Cobblers went close to doubling their lead, while Scott Laird had a shot blocked and then Charles was sent packing for a silly foul on John Johnson. Substitute Yemi Odubade, Billy McKay and Josh Walker all forced fine saves out of Cobblers keeper Chris Dunn, but the visitors deserved the points.
