Stevenage secured their second away win of the season as they comprehensively beat bottom of the table Hereford 4-1 at Edgar Street. Striker Chris Holroyd scored a hat-trick, with Jon Ashton also on the scoresheet. Stevenage were the more forceful side in the opening minutes with both Scott Laird and Ronnie Henry firing wide. Bulls goalkeeper Adam Bartlett also palmed a shot from John Mousinho over the crossbar before Stevenage took the lead in the 13th minute when Lawrie Wilson broke clear on the right and sent in a low cross to Holroyd who crashed the ball into the roof of the net. Hereford hit back, with Guillem Bauza forcing a fine save from Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day with a downward header while James McQuilkin just failed to find the target with a dipping free-kick. Stevenage should have scored a second before the interval but Mousinho shot straight at Bartlett from eight yards, and Hereford levelled four minutes into the second half through Sean Canham who headed a cross from Ryan Valentine into the roof of the net. But Stevenage regained the lead in the 62nd minute when Ashton powered home a header from 12 yards. Holroyd put Stevenage further ahead in the 69th minute, forcing the ball home from close range after being picked out by Mousinho, and then followed it up with his third eight minutes from time - a neat right-foot finish from 12 yards after good work from Peter Vincenti.
