Morocco international midfielder Mehdi Carcela is set to join ambitious Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala on a four-year contract hard on the heels of their acquisition of star Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o.

Carcela's Belgian club Standard Liege said that terms between the clubs and with the player had been agreed and the last hurdle would be his medical tests which would be carried out in Rome later Tuesday.

Standard made no mention of a transfer fee but press reports have said that the 22-year-old Carcela would cost around 9.1 million euros

The Moroccan has been at Standard since he was seven years old and he was first capped for Morocco last season, but has been out of action since May when he sustained a bad injury to his face.

Apart from the high-profile signing of Eto's, Anzhi, who are based in the troubled Caucasus region of Dagestan, have also brought in another Moroccan Mbark Boussoufa and Brazilians Roberto Carlos and Jucilei da Silva.

The club are currently fifth in the Russian first division.
