Van the man for Saints

St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson praised Buddies defender David van Zanten after his winning goal in the 1-0 victory at home to Hibernian.

The 24-year-old former Celtic youngster has been at Love Street for just over three years and MacPherson was pleased with van Zanten's latest contribution.

He said after the win: "Van Zanten was very close to going out of Scottish football when we brought him here.

"He is more suited to a right-back role, but he has had to adapt to the wing-back role and has worked very hard to do that, without a doubt it was a goal fit to win any game.

"He has been excellent, he works hard and we are always encouraging him to get forward. He got his reward this time."
