Sutton urged to stay

St Mirren midfielder Simon Lappin is hoping that the club can agree a new contract with leading scorer John Sutton.

The 22-year-old has scored six SPL goals for the Buddies this season and is out of contract next summer, with a number of clubs rumoured to be showing an interest.

Lappin told the Daily Record: "I don't have a clue what's going on with the contract stuff, but he has been a great player for us.

"We missed a player like that in the seasons before he was at the club and he was massive for us last season in the first division.

"We expected it would be much the same this year and I think he has proven that with his goals and performances."
