Saints hopeful over Sutton

St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson still believes striker John Sutton can be persuaded to sign a new deal and remain at Love Street.

Sutton has bagged 11 goals this season for the Buddies but could leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

The 23-year-old forward scored an 89th minute equaliser as Saints held Hibs to a 1-1 stalemate on Tuesday.

"We are still hopeful that we can keep John," claimed MacPherson.

"We have made him a very good offer and only John can say whether he will take it or not.

"The most important thing right now is the football and getting the results on the park and he is playing his part in doing that."
