Saints 2-2 Dundee United

Saints ended the year with a goal packed draw against Dundee United after twice taking the lead against the Arabs. The result leaves the Buddies seventh in the SPL at the end of 2011.

If you'd offered me four points from the games against Rangers and Dundee United before the weekend I'd have taken it - although I'd have thought the results would come the other way around! It's frustrating to blow two leads and miss out on the chance to go sixth, while we've still failed to win two league games running. But if you'd said in May those would be our problems come the end of the year I'm sure most of us would have been happy with that!

Danny Lennon went with the same side that beat Rangers on Saturday and it was former Arab Steven Thompson who put us in front after 27 minutes when Graham Carey's shot found the net with a deflection off the big striker. We were in front for just a few minutes though as Jon Daly converted Paul Dixon's cross.

No sooner had that happened than we were back in front, Graham Carey scoring another stunning goal - this time from 25 yards and from open play. We've never won a game in which he's scored and, sure enough, United were level again just a few minutes later, Gary Mackay-Steven seeing his cross headed in by Stuart Armstrong.

United looked the stronger now, Samson denying Johnny Russell before Mackay-Steven hit the woodwork. Carey and Mooy had chances to put Saints back in front but in the end the sides had to settle for a share of the points.

Apologies for the brief match report for a home game but sadly living and working in Dumfries and Galloway has meant midweek games have been a no no for the past five years!
