OBrien on trial

Published: 24 Jan 2012 - 12:44:09

Former Hibs and Newcastle United winger Alan O'Brien has arrived in Paisley for a trial spell as he bids to win a contract at Saints.

O'Brien - capped five times for the Republic of Ireland - is on the look-out for a new club following his release by Yeovil earlier this month. The 26-year-old worked with current Saints assistant Tommy Craig at Newcastle and Hibs and also had a stint with Swindon.

The winger has plenty of pace but another midfielder is not what we need right now - and O'Brien has had injury problems in recent years. A defender is surely a bigger priority, although it seems we might have one of them on trial too.

And in other trial news it seems former Buddie Craig Dargo is set to head to the States in a bid to win a deal with the fantastically named Carolina Railhawks.
