St Mirren have handed new long-term contracts to youngsters David Barron and Ryan McCay.

Defender Barron, 20, has put pen to paper on a three-and-a-half-year contract after breaking into the first team this season.

Meanwhile, 21-year-old midfielder McCay has agreed an 18-month deal at Love Street.

"We can't compete on a financial level in the SPL, so we have to bring through our young players," said manager Gus MacPherson.

"David's done extremely well for us. He played for a year at under-19s as a midfield player, but we saw something in him with his pace and his strength which meant he could be a decent defender.

"Ryan McCay has also signed a new deal for another year.

"We're delighted to have signed them up, because we want other young, talented players we've got at the club to see they'll get an opportunity if they progress and show the right attitude."
