Johnston welcomes a break

Veteran St Mirren winger Allan Johnston is hopeful that the international break will help him overcome a nagging groin problem which has hampered him this season.

The 35-year-old has featured just twice since joining the Buddies, but is looking forward to better times in the coming months.

He told the Daily Record: "I feel a wee bit better and was unlucky not to make the game against Rangers last Saturday. Now I just want to make sure I'm 100 per cent ready for our next game.

"We've got a good break coming up and after that I should be fine. I definitely would like to play more, but the team has been doing well.

"I just need to get myself fit then work hard in training and hopefully I can get back into the team, because we have a lot of hard games coming up."
