St Mirren have been boosted by the news that goalkeeper Mark Howard should be fully fit for the start of pre-season training.

The 22-year-old suffered an ankle injury on the final day of the season against Hamilton Academical, but the problem has proved to be less serious than was at first feared.

Boss Gus MacPherson told the Paisley Daily Express: "It is good news that Mark does not need an operation on his ankle.

"It looked a sore one at the time, but he went away to see a specialist and now he's been given a rehabilitation programme that he'll have to follow.

"Mark will have to go and concentrate on his rehab for the time being, but we should have him back ready and available for the start of pre-season."
