Goalkeeper Mark Howard is hoping to remain as first choice at St Mirren, having impressed in the closing weeks of last season.
Howard stepped in after Chris Smith was struck down by illness and helped the Buddies keep five clean sheets in seven games during his tenure.
He told the Daily Record: "I'm sure Chris will be equally determined to prove he's capable of doing the job as I am, so it's going to be a good challenge.
"But towards the end of the campaign I felt very comfortable with the boys in front of me. We had a good understanding and hopefully that will continue."
Former Arsenal youngster Howard moved to Love Street a year ago, having previously played in the SPL while on loan at Falkirk.
