Goals a problem for Buddies
29 Nov 2008 - 10:25:48
St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson has admitted that his side need to improve on a dismal goalscoring record to move clear of danger near the foot of the SPL table.
The Buddies have netted a mere ten goals in 15 league games to date this term, with MacPherson admitting that he is still unsure over his first-choice strike pairing.
He commented: "We felt we needed an experienced striker and we brought in Jim Hamilton, Craig Dargo and Dennis Wyness, who all have good experience.
"Billy Mehmet's still a young player learning his trade, but they've all got SPL pedigree.
"They've all shown they're good players, but it's trying to get that partnership and if they're performing, we'll stick with it.
"In a lot of the games, the strikers have done well apart from taking their chances when they come along. Their link-up play has been okay.
"But scoring goals is the most crucial part."
