Dummett returns as McGinn loaned out
Paul Dummett has returned to Saints on loan from Newcastle United for the rest of the season, while fellow young defender Paul McGinn has been loaned to Dumbarton.
Dummett spent the first half of the season in Paisley, scoring two goals and looking pretty solid at leftback. He returned to Newcastle at the start of January and promptly made his first team debut in the defeat to Brighton in the FA Cup.
Despite that, Saints boss Danny Lennon was hopeful of bringing him back, especially when Newcastle signed a host of new players last week. Over the weekend it was reported the deal was dead but once the paperwork is completed it will go through later today. Dummett is good pals with fellow on loan Magpie Conor Newton and was at last night's game to see the midfielder set-up Steven Thompson's winner.
McGinn - whose brother John has been terrific for the first team this season - joined Saints in September and was then loaned back to former club Queen's Park. That deal ended recently and it looked as if he would be part of the first team but he has now joined first division Dumbarton for the rest of the season. His contract is up in the summer and it remains to be seen whether or not it is extended.
This is already a fair bit of deadline day business considering Lennon said last night nothing was in the pipeline. Dummett's arrival will probably be the last signing and hopefully no one else - particularly Kenny McLean or Paul McGowan - ends up leaving.
