Dorman cleared for Wales call
15 Oct 2009 - 17:12:16
St Mirren midfielder Andy Dorman is in line for a call-up by Wales after a change to the eligibility rules involving British players.
Dorman was born in England, but went to school in Wales and is now a candidate for John Toshack's squad, following a ruling from FIFA.
The FAW's head of international affairs, Mark Evans, told the Paisley Daily Express: "We have been monitoring Andy for years, including his time playing football over in America.
"We have been waiting very patiently for this rule change to go through precisely so we could involve players like Andy.
"The Scottish FA had our 100 per cent support on this issue because it means players who were brought up in Wales will be able to play for what they believe is 'their' country.
"We will be making contact with Andy. We haven't spoken to him before but now we hope to get in touch and then send someone up to Scotland to watch him in action."
