Bonus battle over cup success?

Published: 07 Feb 2010 - 12:20:44

Media reports today suggest a row could be brewing at St. Mirren Park over bonus payments for Tuesday night's League Cup win over Hearts. Is this an early attempt to unsettle us ahead of next month's cup final against Rangers? Apparently, the players received £1,000 a man for winning on Tuesday. According to the article in the Sunday Mail, this is £600 less than they received for beating Motherwell in the previous round. If true, this is rather odd. Why did the players receive less incentive to reach a cup final? Of course, you could argue that the opportunity to play in a cup final should be incentive enough - and that the bonus issue should have been agreed before the semi-final, rather than after it. You could also claim this is an attempt by the pro-Old Firm media to unsettle us, just as they did before last season's Scottish Cup semi-final with mythical stories about Andy Dorman going to Rangers.
