Birchall starts to impress

25 Sep 2007 - 14:27:13

St Mirren assistant manager Andy Millen is backing loan winger Chris Birchall to be a big hit at Love Street, after the Trinidad & Tobago international made a solid full debut for the Buddies.

The 23-year-old impressed in the goalless draw at Kilmarnock, having been short of full fitness when he moved to the SPL club from Coventry City.

Millen told The Scotsman: "Chris only joined up with us a month or so ago, but having 90 minutes under his belt will do him the world of good.

"He showed he'll be a good player for us and has pace and directness about him. We were pleased with how he performed.

"We had about 14 attempts on goal and I think that showed that we were trying to get forward. We were the away team and the onus is always on the home team to try and break us down."
