    Battling Buddies please Gus

St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson was delighted with the spirit his side showed in the 1-0 victory against Rangers, the Buddies' first success against the Glasgow giants at Love Street in 22 years.

Stephen McGinn's late strike proved to be the only goal of the match and it was a finish that impressed MacPherson.

He said: "McGinn's goal was outstanding but we know what he's capable of. He's a very talented youngster who's scored some very important goals for us in his short St Mirren career.

"It was great composure as he passed the ball into the top corner. There were a few people looking for him to pass it and (Craig) Dargo had made a great run, but it was going in all the way and I had a great view of it.

"Every St Mirren player to a man fought their corner and it's amazing what can happen when we do that.

"This club is full of history and we want to make every game we play until we move memorable. You need to earn any three points you get at this level and we showed the effort and commitment to do that.

"Our performance in the first half gave us something to build on. In the first 15 minutes of the second we knew we'd be under pressure and we needed to defend properly but we did.

"Nobody likes being bottom but we have gained three great points and we are delighted."
