Rutkiewicz blow for Saints

St Johnstone captain Kevin Rutkiewicz will miss the opening weeks of the new SPL season due to a knee ligament injury.

The 29-year-old former Aberdeen defender was injured in a pre-season friendly against Cowdenbeath and will be sidelined for around six weeks.

Saints boss Derek McInnes said: "He's going to be out for about six weeks, although we might get him back fit before that.

"He's got a grade two tear of the medial ligament in his knee. It's a blow, there's no question.

"He was an important player for us last season and I expected him to be an important player this season. But it gives someone else an opportunity."
