Jackson eyes Saints return

St Johnstone striker Andy Jackson is hopeful of finally shaking off illness and injury concerns to return to the first-team fold at McDiarmid Park.

The 21-year-old frontman has not played since February, but is close to a return to full training with Derek McInnes' squad.

He told the Dundee Courier: "Everything is going great, I'm actually ahead of schedule in my recovery.

"I've set myself the target of being back training with the boys a couple of weeks from now. Then it will be a case of trying to get as many reserve games in as I can, before hopefully making a competitive return.

"Unfortunately, between the weather being as it is and the fact we are headed into the festive period, there won't be that many reserve matches getting played.

"I'm just looking forward to January 1 and a new year, because the old one has been lousy. In fact, the last two years have been a write-off for me."
