Butcher delighted with form

Inverness manager Terry Butcher is confident his team will continue to improve the longer the SPL season progresses. Caley Thistle are seven matches unbeaten in all competitions, although they had their three-game winning run halted by St Johnstone in a 1-1 draw. Inverness looked to be on their way to another three points when Billy McKay struck his fifth goal of the season in the 74th minute, moments after Andrew Shinnie had skied a penalty over the crossbar for the home side. Saints, however, came away with a point to show for their efforts as substitute David Robertson headed home from close range after the Inverness defence had failed to deal with a long ball from goalkeeper Alan Mannus. Butcher was disappointed not to have won the game, but the Caley Thistle boss was still optimistic of his side's prospects of doing well in the SPL this season. He said: "I think the fact we're disappointed with the result shows how far we've come. "Remember, we're up against a St Johnstone team that had won five on the bounce and we're second in the table going into this one. "We more than matched them. We're now seven matches unbeaten and although we would have loved to have won this won it wasn't to be. "However, I'm delighted with the way we are playing and feel we can only get better. "It's another good point for us as it keeps the run and the progress we are making going." St Johnstone, who are eight matches without a loss in all competitions, had both Frazer Wright and Gregory Tade leave the field with injuries, but manager Steve Lomas was delighted with the contribution made by substitute Robertson. He said: "We had to change things around when Frazer went off, while Gregory has had to leave the field as well. "However, David has come on and he's done very well. "He's had a frustrating time of it with injury, but the finish was typical of him as he arrived in the right place at the right time to score with his header."
