The morning after the night before

Paisley is beginning to wake up after one Buddie good party thanks to Saints winning the League Cup for the first time in their history.

What a day - and what a night. Paisley had waited 26 years for one like it and no one planned to waste it. Many people will be waking up this morning with sore heads, while those who have the day of work may well continue celebrating.

For those who somehow haven't heard the news, Saints yesterday defeated Hearts 3-2 despite a poor first half hour when the Jambos should have been out of sight but only scored once through Ryan Stevenson. Some terrific work Gary Teale then allowed Esmael Goncalves to get the equaliser and somehow we were level at the break.

After the break we wasted no time in going in front, Steven Thompson sidefooting home after a terrific move. Goncalves then teed up Conor Newton to rattle home the third before we made things difficult for ourselves with five minutes left when Stevenson scored again. Thankfully we survived the onslaught and more than 15,000 Buddies went absolutely wild at full-time.

There will be a proper look back at the match sometime before the end of the week. For now it's time to enjoy the moment - and head out to buy the papers!
