Gow confident of making an impact

Alan Gow is confident he can help relegation-threatened St Mirren after making numerous short-term impacts at clubs in recent seasons.

Gow has not played a first-team game since rupturing ankle ligaments while on loan with Bristol Rovers from Exeter a year ago, with his recovery delayed by an infection in the wound.

The 32-year-old has had to do his rehabilitation at former club Rangers in the first half of the season after his Exeter contract expired but he is now looking to make a comeback with the Buddies when Hamilton visit St Mirren Park on Saturday.

The skilful forward, who had a spell in India three seasons ago, is accustomed to settling in quickly in new places so he feels he can hit the ground running.

"I have been used to that," he said. "This is my 14th club. When you have had so many clubs it's quite good because you usually know someone when you come in the dressing room.

"I believe I will make an impact as soon as I get an opportunity. I'm not fully fit yet but I played an hour for the under-20s during the week so I will hopefully be involved at some stage at the weekend.

"I'm always confident in my own ability. I've played at a lot of clubs and a lot of different levels. I know I'm a good player but it will be down to me to show that whenever I get an opportunity."

Bulgarian defender Viktor Genev could make his St Mirren debut. The 26-year-old signed on Thursday and could replace Marc McAusland, who is struggling with a knee problem.

Midfielder Isaac Osbourne faces six weeks out after ankle surgery while recent signing Gow is pushing for a debut.

Hamilton defender Jesus Garcia Tena remains suspended. Tena served an automatic one-match ban last week following his red card against Aberdeen but has another suspension to serve following six bookings in previous games.

Andy Ryan (groin) is the only other player missing.

Forward Dougie Imrie has urged his younger Hamilton team-mates to quickly get over the departure of Alex Neil.

Accies have not won in eight games since player-manager Neil left for Norwich.

The Lanarkshire club have also lost top goalscorers Tony Andreu and Mickael Antoine-Curier but Imrie feels some are still suffering from Neil's exit, despite the appointment of another experienced team-mate in Martin Canning as boss.

Neil was at New Douglas Park for 10 years and coached youth teams before captaining the team until his promotion as manager, and Imrie recognises that he played a huge part in the development of much of the team.

Accies have seen their top-six hopes come under threat from the likes of Dundee and St Johnstone and Imrie is looking to get back on track at St Mirren Park on Saturday.

The 31-year-old said: "Obviously for a lot of younger kids he (Neil) was a mentor for them and it's maybe knocked them back a wee bit. we are still in a good position but we have got to get that out of our heads. He is not here anymore.

"We have got to move forward as quickly as we can and hopefully we can get back to winning ways on Saturday.

"It's hopefully a learning curve for them and they grasp it quickly and get over it. They have got to move on as quickly as they can.

"Don't get me wrong, it's been tough for them because a lot of these younger kids have grown up with Alex as a player and a manager, but they have to get that out of their heads now."
