David Clarkson set for St Mirren bow

St Mirren will give David Clarkson a debut in Saturday's home clash with Alloa following his loan move from Motherwell.

The injured Jason Naismith (knee) and Jim Goodwin (ankle) remain out.

Boss Alex Rae, whose side are seven points clear of their rock-bottom visitors in eighth place, said: "We have had Alloa watched recently and Isaac Layne has added a lot of danger to their attack. They will be tough opponents, but if we play like we can then we can win.

"We lost at Hibs last weekend but we showed for long periods in the game that we could compete with them. We will need that same level of performance if we are to get the win and move further away from our opponents."

Alloa include new signing Mitch Megginson, but Michael Chopra remains out with an ankle injury and Iain Flannigan is a doubt.

Manager Jack Ross - in charge since mid-December - is looking for his side to keep being positive, saying: "We have been unfortunate recently as we were winning against Morton and the game was abandoned and then we deserved to take something from Queen of the South and didn't.

"If we can be as competitive again then we can look forward to playing St Mirren.

"We played them in my first game and lost. I had only taken one training session before that so this is an opportunity to gauge progress."
