Alex Samuel salvages point for Morton with last-minute leveller

Substitute Alex Samuel scored a last-gasp equaliser to earn Morton a 1-1 draw at St Mirren in the Ladbrokes Championship.

Jack Baird's early goal for St Mirren looked like securing a first win in four league games for the Buddies but Samuel was on hand to convert a rebound late on for the fourth-placed visitors.

Scott Agnew sliced an early chance wide for St Mirren but the hosts were soon ahead after a helping hand from Morton goalkeeper Grant Adam.

The former Saints stopper let an 11th-minute Agnew corner slip through his grasp and Baird gleefully nodded home at the back post.

Stefan McCluskey went close to equalising for Morton with an angled drive before Adam went some way to making amends for his earlier error by saving Stevie Mallan's free-kick just before the break.

Morton midfielder Ross Forbes fired a free-kick over and Denny Johnstone slammed a shot into the side-netting as the visitors looked for a way back into the game in the second half.

Andy Webster almost headed home a second for the hosts on 71 minutes but Samuel, on loan from Swansea, had the final say by tapping home a rebound from Johnstone's long-range shot in the 90th minute.
