Smith on Saints radar

Former Rangers fullback Steven Smith is reported to be attracting interest from Saints and Kilmarnock as both clubs look to boost their squads for next season.

The defender is available on a free after leaving MLS side Portland Timbers at the start of the year. The 27-year-old has also played for Norwich, Aberdeen and Preston since he left Ibrox three years ago.

The leftback position is one we need to strengthen over the summer, with Paul Dummett due to return to Newcastle at the end of his loan spell and Graham Carey's future uncertain. Smith is a decent enough player, but has had some injury problems and hasn't played since the end of 2013.

Smith was linked with a move to Paisley in 2009 but the potential loan move from Rangers fell through due to red tape. As a result we ended up with Mo Camara...
