Saints move for Simonsen as Adam departs

Dundee goalie Steve Simonsen could be set to move to Saints, while Grant Adam has been released from his contract.

The departures of Adam and Craig Samson leave Saints with no first team goalie on their books - a situation that needs to be addressed quickly. Aberdeen's Jamie Langfield and ex goalie Kyle Letheren have been mentioned, but Simonsen has claimed we have been in touch with him.

The 34-year-old has spent nearly all his career in England, helping Stoke to promotion to the Premiership in 2008 before missing the decisive penalty for Sheffield United in the League One play-off final last season. Everyone else had taken one by this stage, making United's decision to release him the day after rather harsh.

Simonsen ended up at Dundee shortly after John Brown took over and fell out with Rab Douglas. He seemed to do reasonably well, and their form did improve, so he might not be the worst player to bring in.

News of Adam's departure is no surprise, even though he had another year on his contract. Brother of former loan star Charlie, the goalie joined us in the summer and failed to play a first team game. He disappeared from the first team bench for the final two games of the season which suggested something was up and news of his departure was confirmed yesterday. He's had two spells on loan at Airdrie in the last two seasons so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him end up there.

Finally, Sander Puri - who played just twice for us before being released last week - looks set to sign for League Two side York City.
