Saints in Arfield chase

23 June 2013 13:30
Former Falkirk midfielder Scott Arfield is reported to be attracting interest from Saints and a number of other clubs north and south of the border following his release by Huddersfield.

I wrote yesterday about the key areas we need to strengthen for the new season - namely two goalies, a leftback, a left winger and a striker. Arfield is none of those, instead a box to box midfielder who impressed so much in his younger years with Falkirk that Huddersfield paid £400,000 for him three years ago.

While a player of Arfield's type is maybe not a necessity, he is still a quality player and would be good to have in our squad. As soon as news of Huddersfield letting him go emerged a few months ago I hoped we'd make a move and supposedly we do want to sign him - as do St Johnstone, Ross County, Rangers and Coventry City.

Sadly, the interest from those clubs makes it unlikely we'd be able to sign him - especially as we have more pressing areas of our squad needing attention.
