Parkin joins Exeter

Released Saints striker Sam Parkin has returned to English football by signing for League Two side Exeter City.

The big forward came to Paisley last summer after stints at St Johnstone and Queen of the South. He scored just three goals during his time as a Buddie, the final one being against Aberdeen in the quarter-finals of the League Cup. He also appeared as a sub in the final, replacing the injured Steven Thompson.

Parkin was not offered a new contract at the end of the season and while he had been hoping to stay in Scotland he has today joined Exeter, who will soon be playing his boyhood heroes QPR in a friendly.

Meanwhile fellow striker Lewis Guy, who was released by Saints last week, is still training with Carlisle as he bids to win a contract. Dougie Imrie is doing the same with Morton while Graham Carey is looking to win a deal at Dundee United.
