Morton heading for Paisley?

Saints could have some new tenants at Greenhill Road next season as Morton could end up groundsharing if they are successful in winning promotion to the SPL.

The Greenock side are currently a point behind first division leaders Partick Thistle, who have a game in hand. The team's meet in a few weeks time in a game that could well decide who goes up.

The SPL still has rules in place requiring promoted clubs to have at least 6,000 seats and undersoil heating in place. Morton are planning to cover the away end at Cappielow (using our old stand roof) and carry out the other improvements at a cost of £750,000.

However, should that not be finished in time they have told the SPL they have a back-up plan - namely to use our ground. Presumably this would only be for one full round of home fixtures, rather than the full season, while work is completed at Cappielow.

Having two teams using the ground would probably damage the pitch, although there is a suggestion online we could play our reserve games at Cappielow, which would lessen the strain on the surface. Hopefully if this does go through it's worth our while financially.
