Mixed news for Newcastle pair

24 March 2013 11:16
On loan defender Paul Dummett looks set to be offered a new contract by parent club Newcastle United, but the future isn't looking so good for Geordie pal Conor Newton.

The pair both played a key role in last Sunday's League Cup Final success, Dummett providing the cross for Steven Thompson's goal before Newton bagged what turned out to be the winner. They were both invited back to Tyneside this week to be congratulated by Magpies boss Alan Pardew, which is a nice touch.

Aside from a few weeks at the start of the season and in January, Dummett has spent the entire season on loan at Saints. In between his two spells in Paisley he made his Newcastle debut and seems to have done enough to be handed a new contract. Whether or not he is loaned back out - to us or someone else - or stays at St James' Park to fight for his place remains to be seen.

Newton arrived at Saints in January and has been impressive, but it seems less likely he'll be offered a new United contract. The midfielder his hinted during the week he'd be open to signing for the Buddies permanently so hopefully that happens of Newcastle do let him go.
