McShane seals Accies switch

Saints striker Jon McShane has made a permanent move to Hamilton Academical after enjoying a successful loan spell with the first division club.

The big forward went to New Douglas Park on loan in January and proceeded to rattle in nine goals in 18 appearances. It follows a similar loan spell at Dumbarton last season where he managed 13 goals after breaking his ankle early in the season.

Those figures make you wonder why he has been allowed to leave. McShane had another year left on his contract and did everything he could have been asked of while with other clubs. He didn't really get a chance at Greenhill Road - making just one start before being loaned to Accies at a time we desperately needed some extra firepower. Hopefully we have a few more strikers coming in over the summer and don't live to regret this.

McShane has signed a two year contract with Hamilton but there's been no news of any fee. Considering he had a considerable time left on his Saints deal and Hamilton are hardly strapped for cash - even ignoring the £35,000 we gave them for Dougie Imrie a few months ago - it will be disappointing to say the least if we've allowed him to leave for nothing.
