McGregor denies assault charge

Saints defender Darren McGregor has pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault in an Edinburgh nightclub. The 26-year-old will now stand trial next year.

McGregor - who is currently recovering from a knee ligament injury - is alleged to have punched a man in Base in the capital's Cowgate on July 3 - just days after the squad returned from their pre-season trip to portugal.

The defender has denied the charge and will be tried at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in February, which is around the time he is expected to have recovered from his injury.
