Isma linked with Dons

Esmael Goncalves could be playing in Scotland again next season - but it might be with Aberdeen rather than Saints.

The Portuguese forward became a fans favourite during the six months he spent at the Buddies on loan from Rio Ave last season - scoring in both the semi-final and final of the League Cup. It had looked as if his club would try to sell him, with around £400,000 the price quoted in today's papers.

It's a fee no Scottish club outside the Old Firm could possibly afford. Rio Ave had previously said they were unwilling to loan Isma out again but this morning he was linked with a move to Aberdeen, which seems a bit strange. If they were going to loan the striker out again it would surely make sense to send him to the club where he was such a success before.

Meanwhile, young Saints striker Jack Smith may well be heading for the exit door. The forward - son of former Dunfermline and Airdrie striker Andy - was offered a new deal but looks to have turned it down to try his luck elsewhere.

Finally, there are conflicting reports over Saints' interest in Dundee goalie Steve Simonsen. Some media outlets claim we're about to sign the former Stoke keeper, while others say we have no interest in him!
