Gowser set to stay

Paul McGowan looks set to hand Saints a huge boost for next season by signing a new contract in the next few days.

Most Saints fans had resigned themselves to the midfield playmaker leaving when his contract expires in the summer, with a number of English clubs believed to be interested in signing him. However, Saints boss Danny Lennon has today revealed the former Celtic man has verbally agreed a new deal and is expected to sign it over the weekend.

In my view, McGowan staying is almost like having a new player as I'd assumed he was off. He has been superb for us in the last few years and is instrumental to our style of play, as proven by our shocking form when he was injured for the final few months of 2012. No player is irreplacable, but Gowser is probably the closest we have to someone falling in to that category. Fingers crossed he signs the deal soon and doesn't get his head turned by someone else.
