Scobbie hopes Saints bounce back

St Johnstone defender Tam Scobbie has welcomed the quick turnaround ahead of the visit of Aberdeen as the Perth side bid to atone for a disappointing defeat in Inverness.

Caley Thistle secured a comfortable 2-0 win over St Johnstone on Tuesday night and Saints have little time to recover from the game and journey back.

But Scobbie feels they will be fired up against a side who are looking to regain top spot in the Scottish Premiership.

Scobbie told his club's audio channel: "We need to get the boys up and ready to go again against Aberdeen because they are flying up at the top of the league.

"But it's something we look forward to. We have got guys who will want to rectify the disappointing result and performance on Tuesday. It's onwards and upwards.

"We want to keep looking forward and pushing to make sure we stay in the top six.

"The boys are all ready to go and make up for the performance we had on Tuesday night."

Scobbie made his first start since August in Inverness after recovering from a knee injury.

"It's been a long road back and the boys have been doing well," the former Falkirk player said.

"I managed to get 10-15 minutes at the weekend and then 90 minutes on Tuesday night, which is good for my fitness.

"Obviously the performance wasn't good enough from all of us. The gaffer expressed that after the game and we have to move on to Saturday.

"It wasn't good enough and it's something we have to rectify for Friday night."

St Johnstone have a host of injury worries for the game.

Midfielders Chris Millar (groin) and Murray Davidson (muscle strain) missed Tuesday's defeat at Inverness and Michael O'Halloran (calf), Frazer Wright (thigh) and Dave Mackay (back) all picked up injuries.

Forward James McFadden completes a three-match ban and Dylan Easton has gone out on loan to Dumbarton but Brian Easton and Steven MacLean are both in contention to play after staying on the bench on Tuesday as they are eased back after injury.

Meanwhile, Aberdeen striker Adam Rooney has spent the week focusing on Friday night's game and ignoring the fluctuations in the Scottish Premiership table.

With the Dons not in midweek action, Inverness closed within three points of Aberdeen with a 2-0 win over St Johnstone, before Celtic removed them from the top of the table with victory over Motherwell on Wednesday.

But Rooney said: "The gaffer has it drilled into us that we just focus on ourselves. We can't pay too much attention to what other teams do.

"Inverness had a good result on Tuesday night and that's them close as well. It's tight up there, a lot of teams are pushing to get as high up the league as they can.

"We will just focus on ourselves, we know if we get three points then that will push us up again. We're on a good run, we have got momentum, we managed to fight back and make a positive from the weekend when it could have been a bad defeat.

"Confidence is still there and we have to make sure we do as well as we can on Friday. We can't look ahead of Friday."

Defender Ashton Taylor misses out after undergoing knee surgery.

But full-back Joe Shaughnessy is back in contention following a loan spell with Falkirk.

Russell Anderson, Scott McKenna and Nicky Low remain unavailable through injury.
