The 22-year-old striker penned a two-year contract with Saints at the start of the current campaign, but is only planning on sticking around until the summer. Hasselbaink has been targeted by clubs in League One in the past, but he believes he is capable of turning out in the Championship. He is convinced he can be a success at that level and is confident an opportunity will present itself if he continues to impress in the Scottish Premier League.
"I'm using these seasons as a springboard to England as that's where I'll play next so it's good I play in Scotland," Hasselbaink said in the Daily Record.
"Last summer there was interest from League One but that's beneath my level. "I'd prefer to play in the Championship."
