Mackay dedicates goal to late son
St Johnstone captain Dave Mackay dedicated his first goal of the season to his late baby son after opening the scoring against Ross County.
Mackay put his side in front in the eventual 1-1 draw in the Clydesdale Bank SPL, and said afterwards: "I've wanted to score a goal since I lost my wee boy in April.
"This was the first goal I've scored since then, so it was special in that way. I had prepared myself for it so I wasn't too emotional, and I was delighted to score.
"I just wanted to do it in a victory, but it wasn't to be."
The draw leaves the Perth side fourth in the SPL table, one point behind Aberdeen.
"It's two points dropped rather than one gained," Mackay added.
"We were on top for so much of the game but just haven't taken our chances and paid the price - we had plenty of chances to finish the game, then ended up switching off at a free kick at the other end and it went in with a deflection.
"Results went our way at the top of the table so it was a bad game to drop points in, but as long as it's only 1-0, there's always a chance of something like that happening.
"We're making plenty of chances and getting into great areas but just can't seem to finish teams off at the moment when we go ahead - we just need to learn to do that."
County equalised courtesy of an own goal when Liam Craig deflected in an Iain Vigurs effort from Richard Brittain's quickly-taken free kick.
Vigurs joked that he intended to claim the strike to boost his scoring tally for the season to four, saying: "I was going for the far post - we'll never know now with that deflection, but I'm going to try and claim it and see what happens!
"It was good quick thinking by Richie Brittain; they were caught sleeping and we took full advantage - we were quite lucky with the deflection but you take anything that you get.
"It was a big goal, a vital goal, as St Johnstone were good and passed the ball pretty well. We were struggling to get to grips but stayed solid in the first half, then conceded a sloppy goal in the second.
"We're happy with a draw here as it was a tough game. We didn't really play too well last week against Kilmarnock, so it's good to get back to putting some points on the board."
