Former Spain manager Javier Clemente has been appointed as new caoch at Sporting Gijon in place of Manuel Preciado who was sacked at the end of January.
A club statement said that Clemente had signed on until June 30.
Preciado, who had been at the club for five and a half years, was sent packing after a poor first half of the season. They are currently second from bottom with just 19 points.
The 61-year-old Clemente was coach of Spain from 1992 until the 1998 World Cup and then was in charge of Serbia from 2006-2007 and Cameroon from 2010-2011.
His club experience is vast having been coach at Athletic Bilbao, Espanyol, Atletico Madrid, Betis and also Marseille in France.
